What it’s all about

Welcome all to the official MLC blog.  First off, you are probably wondering what in the world is a ‘matroshka’ and a ‘marshutka’ well, quite simply a matroshka is a Russian doll, you know the little figurines that fit inside of one another, if you come to Odessa there is a 98% chance that you will buy one as a souvenir.  The marshutka is a fabled beast that roams the city streets often at high speeds with no regard for pedestrians, cars, or its own passengers.  Basically, the marshutka is a mini-bus which provides public transport.  Ask an Odessan about riding in a marshutka and you are guaranteed to get a knowing smile and little sigh.

Before we get any further I should introduce myself, my name is Ian and I am the owner and Director of Studies for MLC and thought it would be a good idea to share with the world my experiences of opening and running a business in Ukraine as well as giving a small snapshot into Odessa’s rich and varied culture.  Shameless self-promotion may also figure prominently in this space.

If you have any questions or comments regarding me, the school, or Odessa please feel free to post a comment or send me an email: i.macmillan@mlc-russian.com
